Armenian composer/pianist, combining elements of classical, jazz and traditional music from Armenia.
Sona Talian was born as a member of a traditional Armenian musical dynasty. At the age of four, she witnessed a performance of a Tchaikowsky Piano Concerto and was able to play the main theme with both hands, a feat which drew attention from the public. She started her systematic musical education at the age of six years and at this tender age, composed her first piano piece.
In 1990 she came to Germany on a concert tour with her sister, at that time both decided to continue their education at the music academy in Detmold. Sona later completed her studies as a pianist at the Frankfurt Academy of Music and Performing Arts, graduating with distinction. Since then, Frankfurt has become a beloved hometown for her where she now lives and works as a composer and pianist.
She views her musical visions as a gift and brings them to life: “especially in the morning and at night when the world is still without contours, I am filled with sounds and music,” enthuses Talian. She searches the harmonies out of the keyboard of her piano, which develop into her compositions.
Her latest piece, entitled “Raindrops”, is a celebration of the infinity of life, of the individual and of becoming one with the world. In her compositions, she combines elements of classical music, jazz and the folk music of her Armenian heritage, transcending boundaries in a variety of ways.
Sona Talian understands our yearning for the intensity of the moment in every single note – and she fulfils it.
Sona just recently published her CD “Raindrops” with piano works, available at Amazon.
